Seniors Ride to the Park

Building Confidence Through Community Mobility

Seniors Ride to the Park is a community mobility initiative that helps older adults build confidence using public transit while enjoying safe, social, and accessible outdoor experiences.

In partnership with Vancouver Cycling Without Age, the program combines guided transit education with joyful trishaw rides in local parks, creating opportunities for connection, independence, and time in nature. This program is generously supported by TransLink’s Walk, Bike, and Roll Campaign.

How it Works

BEST facilitators guide a small group of seniors through a hands-on “how to ride transit” learning experience. Participants travel together by public transit to a local park destination, where volunteers from Vancouver Cycling Without Age provide accessible trishaw rides, a fun and truly unique outdoor social experience.

Why this Matters

Supporting Confidence and Independence

Helping older adults feel more confident using public transit and accessing green spaces can support independence, strengthen climate resilience, and reduce social isolation.

Connection Through Community

Group travel and shared outdoor experiences create opportunities for social connection and belonging.

Access to Green Space

Spending time outdoors and in nature supports wellbeing, mobility, and quality of life.

Inclusive Transportation Experiences

The initiative demonstrates how accessible transportation options can help seniors stay active and engaged in their communities.

Our Partners

  • Founded in 2018, Vancouver Cycling Without Age is a registered charity and volunteer-powered organization that takes seniors and their friends and family for recreational bike rides on trishaws (three-wheeled bicycles).
They predominantly serve seniors between the ages of 70-100 who live in long-term care homes, experience social isolation, and face barriers to getting outside. Their passengers experience the joy and health benefits of a slow ride around the streets, parks, and bike lanes of Vancouver, engaging in conversations and storytelling, seeing old sights, building relationships, and feeling the wind in their hair again.
